At some point to be confirmed in the near future*, the Truck Store will be moving location from Cowley Road to the centre of Oxford. At the same time, it’ll be renamed as Rapture Records – making it a veritable chain store, what with there being other branches in Witney and Evesham and all. It’s a chain store that it’s okay to love, though.
The new location will be in Gloucester Green, at the site previously occupied by Massive Records and, more recently, Fopp. Nothing much will change in terms of how the shop works – they’ll still stock lots of great local music alongside all kinds of records, CDs, DVDs and more – but the move should see them pull in a lot more passing trade, which can only be a good thing.
To mark the occasion, the Cowley Road Truck Store is hosting a weekend of entertainment on 1 and 2 October. Final details, including timings, are yet to be set, but expect at some point over Saturday and Sunday to see in-store performances from at least the following:
- The Yarns
- Spring Offensive
- Cat Matador
- Deer Chicago
- Dubwiser
- We Aeronauts
- Dead Jerichos
- Mat Gibson
- The Winchell Riots
They’re also taking the genius move to sell beer in the store over the weekend. Beer! Beeeeer! So get drunk, listen to some music, and buy some goodies. Or if you don’t drink, just listen and buy. Here’s the Rapture Records website.
(This news is hot! White hot! Hence the lack of detail…)
