BBC Introducing in Oxford chappie, and all-round Oxford music impresario/bon viveur Sam King, is undertaking – along with seven friends – an epic challenge on 14 July. It’s called Oxfam Trailwalker, and will involve the crazed plan to walk 60 miles over the South Downs in under 30 hours. Through this the plan is to raise money for Oxfam, and to help with this as well as raise awareness of the cause, King has arranged a gig at The Bullingdon in Oxford on Thursday 7 June.
The gig features a super-duper line-up of Oxford talent, comprising the twisty indie rock of Gunning For Tamar, the self-named ‘Mafrobeat’ of Nairobi, and Americana-via-Oxford from My Crooked Teeth. Doors open at 8.00 pm, and entry on the door is a measly £5, so the more of you that get along to the gig, the more money gets raised for Oxfam.
There’s more information about Oxfam Trailwalker here, and if for some reason you can’t attend the gig – or, indeed, you’re a very generous type – you can also direct directly to King’s cause at his fundraising page. At the time of writing, they’re £380 into their overall target of raising £3,000, so do what you can to help them reach that target!
