Punt 2010: How was it for you?

Leave your Punt 2010 stories here as comments. Who did you see? Where did you go? What was the best band/venue/happening of the night?

There will be a full MusicInOxford.co.uk review up here soon, but in the meantime we want your reviews. (If you can’t remember who was who, here’s the Punt 2010 timetable.

Wow that was good fun but my head hurts a lot.
    Highlights for me
    Samuel Zasada
    Ute
    Scholars

Was a really good punt… good work Ronut

Didn’t get to see half as much as I would have liked which is a bummer, so much I wanted to see! BoZ who kicked off at the cellar were massive, Ute were awesome as well. Caught the second half of Dead Jerichos – was good to see them really going for it despite the sound being a bit too small for their sound. Wish we could have caught Spring Offensive but their set ran alongside ours!

Review coming in the next few days. Enjoyed Fixers, Message to Bears, Helen Pearson’s first and last songs. Telling the Bees were outstanding.

  • jamess

“despite the sound being a bit too small for their sound.” -eh? sorry for that – we slung a 3.5k rig in (next time you can offer to help load in/out more amps and speakers for us?) and ran it at a level where we aimed to get clarity of vocals. Strange concept.
first time i’d seen them -not bad at all. Much usage of delay pedals like it was 1983 all over again! Nice.
Risen in Black played later and were cuntingly loud. Good boys!

  • Tim Mobbs

I don’t know, maybe it could have been from being at the back or from the structure of the venue or a multitude of things. I didn’t say it was down to the hard work of everyone working down there or the rig!

Thanks for a great night to one and all… Ronan for organising, James & co. for sound and the guys and gals who turned up to see us.

Also good job by all bands at the Purple Turtle, never the easiest of venues.

The 2 times I visited The PT (not for Dead J’s, incidentally, but they are ace) the PA was as loud and clear as I could want.

    Sorry, 3 times, I meant.

Must have accidentally had my ear plugs then! …or I’m getting hearing damage. Oo-er!

  • Tim Science

    Personal highlights:
We Are Ugly But We Have The Music, who actually printed a menu of all the tunes.
Dead Jerichos. First time I’d seen them, now I know what all the fuss is about.
    Fixers
Spring Offensive. 15 Minute epic closer! Yes!

If I had to pick one: Fixers, who I may have drunkenly described as “proper fucking pop music” while waving my arms about in the middle of Cornmarket.

  • johnny moto

    i enjoyed the anydays.
i walked past the speaker [with my earplugs on] when RIB started of people could see me wince with pain it was sooooo LOUD,BOZ then finnished my eardrums of in the cellar.
vicars new set and added sax player was great.
barberella and fans where there normal fun, dressed up selves.
i love the way they just dress up and enjoy themselves.
scholars where good and i heard the best one liner of the night when they started.”is that a young david cameroon” some wag quipped.
wish i had made more venues.
metaphorical hat of to ronan another good punt…

  • Platesmasher

Ah, “clarity of vocals”, I noticed that during the Sealings set.

(kidding! I know that was the point. The PT can’t be the best room in town acoustically – it’s not sightwise either – but I caught 4 bands there and they all sounded great in their different ways. I was standing at the back for most of them and could make out the lyrics. Except Sealings, where I was down at the front enjoying the blissful and intentional lack of clarity)

  • jamess

“the blissful and intentional lack of clarity”
    i love that. No, really!
got to say i realy enjoyed pretty much all i saw and load out wasn’t nearly so painful as last year, due to a bit less gear and some valuable help.

  • Thin Green Fred.

Sealings were very good, Just a shame there were very few people watching them. The only words I could here were something about getting naked. Only caught a little bit of the fixers but was very impressed
Thanks Tim. I had loads of fun glad the Menus were appreciated. When I am huge and packing out venues them Menus will be a collectors item.

  • Ronan

Hey Tim, was your young lady friend taking photos on Wednesday? If so and if she has any from the Mal or Wheatsheaf would be up for letting me use a couple?

    Hey Ronan,

I may not be Tim’s young lady friend, but I was taking Pictures. Feel free to use pictures from my Flickr account: http://www.flickr.com/photos/allthatimprobableblue/

I have also emailed you a couple more pics from the night.

  • Tim Science

    What me?

Yes, she was and did, do you want us to send you some? Nightshift email address? Or we can send you a link to Flickr once they’re up, which shouldn’t take very long.

  • Thin Green Fred.

Any chance of seeing any photos you got of We are Ugly, Tim? The wife was filming it but had the wrong settings on and mucked it up.

  • Tim Science

J has a few but some of them came out a bit…experimental.
I’ll link to flickr once they’re up.

  • Ronan

Thanks Tim, either would be good. Cheers
