Brookes Big Night Out

New weekly club night and more plans from Academy Music Group and Oxford Brookes Students’ Union

Academy Music Group, who of course run O2 Academy Oxford and whose shareholders include Live Nation, SJM Concerts and Metropolis Music, have teamed up with Oxford Brookes Students’ Union in a three-year partnership to “deliver a diverse programme of entertainment for the students of Oxford Brookes University”.

The prime venue for events will be O2 Academy Oxford, and there will also be a Freshers’ Festival launched to welcome the annual influx of new Brookes students in the first week of the new academic year. As well as this, there’s a new weekly club night, ‘Brookes Big Night Out’, to run every Wednesday from 19 September 2012. This dovetails with the moving on of legendary student mess Fuzzy Ducks, which will be relocated to Wahoo in the city centre. After endless complaints about the noise and drunken behaviour of Fuzzy Ducks attendees as they spilled out late at night, it seems that Cowley Road’s Wednesday nights aren’t about to become on oasis of calm.

Some dry quotes, cut and pasted from a press release: “We are confident that Academy Music Group will meet our expectations in terms of service provision and event experience for our students” says David Whittingham, General Manager, Oxford Brookes Students’ Union. “We will proactively address any issues in the local area and reinforce a positive message to encourage good conduct at all Oxford Brookes Students’ Union events.”

“This joint initiative will offer Brookes students opportunities to attend O2 Academy Oxford’s club and live events, plus we’ll be adding in Glee Club comedy shows, as well access to our weekly Propaganda events” adds Carl Bathgate, Commercial Development Manager, Academy Music Group. “The academic year will start with an exciting programme of Freshers’ events; on campus and elsewhere, with artists including Stooshe, Misha B, specialist and mainstream events from Bedlam featuring DJ sets from Rudimental, Modestep, Zane Lowe and so much more.”

A brand new website just launched for Brookes Big Night out, which you can see here.
