“Up on the roof”, as the Drifters sang in 1962, and little did they know that they were actually referring to a forthcoming Oxjam Oxford Takeover event fifty years in the future. In the latest of this year’s Takeover events – which have included gigs at one of G&D’s Oxford ice cream shops and Witney’s The Swan pub – live music will be staged in the rooftop amphitheatre of Oxford’s Saïd Business School on 13 September.
With hilarious irony, the Business School, which may well normally house lectures for young entrepreneurial types on how to take over businesses, will itself be taken over, with live music starting from 7.30 pm. Or, at least, its roof will be. There will be stripped-down performances – musically speaking, although who knows how stripped-down it’ll get if it’s a sunny evening – from Cat Matador, Alphabet Backwards and Bethany Weimers.
Tickets are £5 both in advance and on the door, and profits will contribute to Oxjam Oxford’s target of £6,000 raised through this year’s events. The big ol’ main event is of course the multi-venue takeover that will take place on 13 October. Read more about that here, and keep up with Oxjam Oxford here.
