Fedeterra: Glass Shattered

Ahh, Fedeterra. They remind me of my youth. The vim and vigour, the mindless battering of drums, the illogical combination of disparate influences, the utter refusal of anyone to use a tuner, the insults and the energy.

Fedeterra have all these things in abundance. A drummer who is fifty-something years too young for Surf, the squeaky-clean Chili Peppers Strat of Doom, the fancy guitarist who can afford a massive effects box and isn’t afraid to use it (or can’t turn it off. It’s one that doesn’t have a built-in tuner, so probably doesn’t have an “off” switch either), the big chorus of “I can’t stand you” repeated ad infinitum, the stops and starts. It’s all there, gloriously out of tune and sounding like they wrote four different songs and they’re playing them all at the same time. The singer almost gets a bit Gullivers on us but thankfully stays the right side of that particular yawning chasm of despair.

Did I mention they haven’t yet grasped the concept of tuning?

But it’s OK because the track was clearly recorded in some vast underground cave (or more likely the school gym), making the resulting mush sound almost like something off the Mothers’ “Cruising with Ruben and the Jets” being played by the Shaggs’ older brothers.

Brilliant. More please.

Love that opening paragraph, Tim. That’s a teenage rock band right there.

My brother plays bass in this band. They don’t even exist anymore!
