Chirpy, cheeky, expansive, melodically-rich and deceptively complex, ‘Knock Me On The Head’ is a song, recently jettisoned into the world for all to share, from the forthcoming new Stornoway album.

The album, due for release on 4AD in March this year, will be named Tales From Terra Firma – meaning that, along with Young Knives, that’s at least two Oxford bands with releases including the words ‘terra firma’. Look out for reports of further developments in this new genre, terrafirmacore.

As evidenced by ‘Knock Me On The Head’, 4AD reports that the new album “marks a significant progression from [debut album] Beachcomber’s Windowsill both compositionally, instrumentally and, in particular, lyrically”. Prior to the album’s release, Stornoway head off on a national tour that includes a pair of dates at Oxford’s Town Hall on 14 and 15 February.
