In an utterly bizarre piece of lightweight journalistic programming, Oxford indie-pop legend Amelia Fletcher appears on Radio 4’s ‘Alan Johnson: Failed Rock Star’ show, broadcasting on 2 August at 9.30 am, and doubtless available with some kind of new-fangled Listen Again/iPlayer-type shenanigans.
The show, presented by ex-Home Secretary Alan Johnson (yes, I said it was bizarre), features Fletcher, currently of Tender Trap and late of Talulah Gosh, Heavenly and Marine Parade, in the following scenario:
Alan meets Amelia Fletcher – singer with a number of successful indie bands in the eighties and nineties. She’s still in a band today, whilst simultaneously holding down a serious office job – as chief economist with the Office of Fair Trading. Amelia and Alan talk about the joys and perils of combining the rock life with a demanding job. Did Alan make a mistake by thinking the two don’t mix?
There you have it. Oddness encapsulated. Find out more here, and while you’re at it drop by on the Tender Trap MySpace page.
