For Dean Owens, Johnny Cash has always been somewhere in the background of his life, but like many he didn’t stop and take the music too seriously until the first American Recordings made with Rick Rubin. “I don’t think I would have made my first solo album The Droma Tapes if it hadn’t been for that record,” he says.

Owens was previously in the acclaimed band The Felsons before going solo. The Droma Tapes was released in 2001 and there have been three studio albums since then (including the acclaimed Whiskey Hearts on Navigator Records) – all showcasing Owens’ other influences, from the classic pop of Aztec Camera, to Americana, sixties pop, and Celtic folk.
