Arbouretum / Listing Ships / Coma Wall @ Port Mahon, Oxford
Monday 19 August 2013, 7:30 pm - 11:00 pm
£8 advance
The incredible Arbouretum are visiting the UK for festival dates, and this is their smallest UK show in the intimate confines of the Port Mahon. After an extraordinarily good performance at 2012’s Audioscope festival at the Jericho Tavern, Baltimore’s Arbouretum – signed to Thrill Jockey Records – return to Oxford. The band’s poetic lyrics and slow, heavy build are not stuff of the quick fix. Their music stands in stark contrast to a culture that is more about video and track placement than criticism and discourse.
Listing Ships: A quartet from East Oxford inspired by the precision of Tortoise and Shipping News, the sonic palette of The Octopus Project and Tarentel, and the explorations of krautrock.
Coma Wall: The acoustic underbelly of super-heavy sludge rockers Undersmile. Coma Wall was formed as an outlet for the members’ love of folk, blues, doom and other acoustic music forms.
