Event Navigation
Candy Says play their album launch show at Oxford’s Holywell Music Room, with support from Chrysta Bell.
Candy Says’s debut album Not Kings has been a year in the making, recorded in the band’s bungalow garage. During that time they’ve released a mobile app of demos and liner notes, three sold out cassette singles, two EPs of garage recordings, a live album and two full-length concert films.
This will be the third in a series of unique sold out shows in unusual Oxford venues. The first, at St Barnabas Church in May, featured a live painting of an enormous canvas behind the stage and a surprise opera singer, and the Oxford Times called it “triumphant”. The Christmas show, over two nights at the Albion Beatnik bookshop, included a choir of singing mannequins wired up with old stereo speakers.
Chrysta Bell is an American chanteuse who co-wrote a critically acclaimed album with David Lynch, and is visiting Oxford as part of a month-long European tour. Candy Says will be supporting Chrysta Bell on the UK leg of her tour (Glasgow, Manchester, London) and she has kindly agreed to join them for their album launch in Oxford.
The Holywell Music Room is Europe’s oldest purpose-built music venue, and the acoustics are perfect for the band’s intricate arrangements and intimate vocals. It’s the perfect place to see Candy Says perform their catchy lo-fi chic pop tunes and grab the album weeks before its official release on 5 May.
