Event Navigation
Cara Dillon was born in July 1975 in Dungiven, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. In 1995, she joined the folk group Equation with Sam Lakeman, Seth Lakeman, Sean Lakeman and Kathryn Roberts. She went on to marry Sam Lakeman and collaborate with him musically in various different guises. She’s releasing her fifth solo album and is coming to Didcot as part of the tour.
Her second album Sweet Liberty (2003) received The Meteor Irish Music Award for Best Irish Female. She performed at the Belfast Festival at Queen’s Opening Ceremony with the Ulster Orchestra. In 2006, Dillon sang at the opening ceremony of the 2006 Ryder Cup in Ireland. Her original song ‘Hill Of Thieves’ was voted by BBC listeners as one of the Top 10 original songs to come out of Northern Ireland.
More than all of those accolades, it’s the combination of traditional folk songs and beautiful new compositions, sung with such sincerity and backed on piano and guitar by Sam Lakeman, which make it a concert to remember.
