Cleveland Watkiss is one of the great jazz vocalists of the moment, playing The Spin for the first time, in the company of the spellbinding Pat Thomas on piano. Cleveland comes to Oxford having just played the Royal Opera House with Julian Joseph’s Big Band as well as dates at Rochester Jazz Festival and the Lincoln Centre in New York earlier in the summer. Cleveland came to prominence in the celebrated Jazz Warriors, perhaps the key ensemble in British jazz during the 80s and early 90s. Since then he has gone on to work with and opposite some of the greatest artists in the tradition – Cassandra Wilson, Wynton Marsalis, Art Blakey, Courtney Pine and many more. His stage presence and incredible voice make this a must see gig!
