Two of the pillars that support Rome’s burgeoning improvisation scene are the Franco Ferguson Collective and Improvvisatore Involontario. Heimweh have connections to both organizations. Heimweh’s members have backgrounds in rock, Balkan music, straight jazz and classical music, but all these rambunctious individual elements are submerged into an energetic style of free improvisation that is nevertheless governed and regulated by a shared sensibility, with high levels of musicianship.
