Jerome Noetinger & Lionel Marchetti: This duo improvises by manipulating different objects with/on various objects ranging from a piano frame to reel to reel Revox, mixing desk, microphones, speakers, cassettes… where they mix acoustic sounds with recordings and retrieved recordings.
Guy Sherwin & Lynn Loo: Guy Sherwin & Lynn Loo have been collaborating on expanded cinema since 2005. Their work foregrounds the act of projection and explores physical connections between sound and image in live performance, using multiple projection, looping and other non-linear techniques.
Rie Nakajima: In ‘Dots’ we have both an installation, with discrete works, and a performance piece: the objects are individual sonic works and then are part of a larger ensemble. Nakajima allows the pieces to exhibit a menial movement of a modest object to its transformation into instrument; through the object’s sound-making ability: its clinks, clangs, and dings; triggered by battery. When the work functions as a performance piece, there is a grand cohesion and expression with other humble objects until they, too, become orchestral.
Dawn Scarfe: ‘Tuning to Spheres’ is performed with wine glasses, sine tone generators and turntables. In the manner of an acoustic experiment, sine tones are carefully tuned to the resonant frequency of different wine glasses. With every rotation of the turntable, beating effects are produced as glasses pass under the speakers.
