Mark Mulcahy makes a long-awaited return to the UK from his home in Springfield, Massachusetts for a brief series of shows ahead of the forthcoming release of his new album – his first since 2005’s In Pursuit Of Your Happiness. The former Miracle Legion (a band much-lauded by the likes of Thom Yorke and Michael Stipe) frontman’s solo career began with Fathering – an album that received universal praise and featured the track ‘Hey Self Defeater’, a song featured in Nick Hornby’s 31 Songs. From there followed albums Smilesunset and In Pursuit Of Your Happiness, several tours of the UK and Europe, countless radio sessions and huge critical acclaim for both his songwriting prowess and his remarkable voice. In 2008 he put everything on hold to look after his children following the tragic death of his wife. To assist him through these troubled times many of his long-time fans in the music industry banded together to record an album of his songs and as a result 2009 saw the release of Ciao My Shining Star, featuring the likes of Stipe, Yorke, Josh Rouse, Mercury Rev, Dinosaur Jr and The National – who as curators of this year’s All Tomorrow’s Parties festival have recently invited Mark to perform there in December.
