October’s Basement Session brings together a collection of bands that in their own individual style represent a snapshot of the nation’s current ‘independent’ sounds. The event is being covered by Clash magazine and will be filmed.
O Children: Headline act, O Children visit Oxford to perform tracks from their latest album, Apnea, as part of their national tour. Their post-Horrors soaring gothic indie seems destined to finally pick up the plaudits it deserves.
Drop Out Venus: A three piece from Deptford, South London, Drop Out Venus have been difficult to avoid over the past 12 months. An intense, almost ferociously abrasive live experience, the trio have notched up a series of high profile shows.
Frazer: As a young rising four piece from Sheffield, Frazer are the latest exciting act to come from the ongoing talent pool the area has for producing quality independent minded music. Tight, melodic and loud, their coiled tension driven songs create a sound of a nation’s youth striving for a place beyond the city’s grip and into people’s hearts.
Tawny Owl: Tawny Owl are a delightfully eerie alt-pop outfit from Norwich. Drawing influences from several genres and musical movements, the band offer a diverse and eclectic range of harmonies and technical structures that bring to mind dark noir film scores mixed with lighter kitsch songwriting moments. Unsettling, beautiful and authentically home crafted.
