OCM presents ‘Listen Here’ @ Broad Street, Oxford
Thursday 1 May 2014
Free
As part of May Day ‘Soapbox City’, accompanying Oxford Playhouse and Pegasus who will place a soapbox on Broad Street for twelve hours of continuous public address, for the people of Oxford to have their say, OCM are curating their own soapbox moments called ‘Listen Here’.
They’ve found international residents that have made Oxford their home and who will present music and sound interludes, transporting you around the world with sounds from, or influenced by, their homeland:
- 7.20 am: Forest Sounds Bruno Guastalla presents and reflects upon the mesmeric, intricately woven fabric of sounds he recorded in a French Guayanan rainforest.
- 1.45 pm: Nothing Macarena Ortuzar collaborates with Chilean friend and artist Rocio Ariste Aguirre to present a DJ set with live improvised dance exploring what it is to have your heart in one land and your body in another.
- 2.55 pm: Liat & Miguel Live music with traditional instruments from this international duo.
- 3.40 pm: Ionnina Polyphonia: Nightingales Dimitris Batsis and Efthymios Chatzigiannis present an improvised soundscape using field recordings of historic sites in the Greek town Ionnina. Their piece is based on Nightingale song, which has strong bonds to the traditions and myths of the town.
