Event Navigation
After playing two spellbinding London shows – Union Chapel and The Lexington – folk-noir balladeer Rachel Sermanni embarks on a cross-country tour this autumn, taking in 20 dates.
Highland-born Rachel has supported the likes of Michael Kiwanuka, Elvis Costello, Fink and Ron Sexsmith but has carved her own niche with the kind of tough, witty, observational outpourings which borrow from the troubadour tradition. She’s got a glint in her eye which keeps you guessing and after releasing her debut EP – ‘Black Currents’ – earlier on in the year, Rachel’s full-length album Under Mountains is due out 17 September 17 on her own Middle of Nowhere Recordings. It dallies with rich, poetic warbles like ‘Breathe Easy’, dramatic clinchers like ‘The Fog’, undulating orchestrations like ‘Black Currents’ and features standout out track ‘Bones’; all songs which look out at the world with eyes wide open.
Support comes from London’s Joshua Gilbert, who offers mellow Bunnymen-style mini-epics with a heartfelt, deft grip of tunefulness, and Oxford’s Camena, whose recent ‘Valentine And The Sea’ single we called excellent.
