The Heavy Dexters: A band of six musicians with a love of jazz funk, delivering driving, complex and contemporary jazz tunes with originality and impact. Many members of the band have been gigging and recording for many years and this experience brings a dynamic to their live performances that is making them one of Oxford’s most exciting new outfits. Expect covers from JTQ to Stanton Moor, Herbie Hancock to Grant Green, as well as their own funky nuggets.
The Lucky Club: Bouncy, approachable tunes somewhere between beer-glugging indie pop, and smiling skiffle. They have been known to use a suitcase instead of a drumkit, and they have been known to make audiences happy, as The Strummer Room Project can verify: “excellent live, very talented and nice blokes to boot!”
Beard Of Destiny: Using twelve and six string guitars, he writes songs about swamp dogs, lazy cats, the ten pence man and even his own beard. He often gigs with a cahon accompanist, but has also been known to turn up with a full band. Either way, the songs are funny, idiosyncratic and have a cheeky glint in their eyes. And, yes, his beard is pretty phenomenal.
