The Shapes: Some proper grown-up pop music from this local folky country rocky type ensemble. With nods to 70s Dylan, Cockney Rebel and Squeeze, they ply a fine trade in elegant, melodic tunes, spiked with piquant mandolin and cheeky keyboard.

Greg Larkin: Swinging in from Manchester, we find solo guitarist Greg Larkin. His highly percussive, advanced technique is a joy to witness, but it isn’t just muso showboating, his compositions are also fascinating, drawing inspiration from such disparate areas as flamenco, post-rock and Zeppelin, as well as the inevitable John Renbourne and Davy Graham.

The Trophy Cabinet: Coming on like a less frenetic, more level-headed version of The Wedding Present, The Trophy Cabinet make with the chiming guitars, literate understated lyrics, and sweet-natured bounce.
